Eve J !

Like said previous I don't have a musical knowledge of how it all *works*.
I just hear music for what it is ... 'a glorious noise' despite all that musical tech stuff !!
(Prob too much listening to my 'influence' who had a habit of giving 'the band' the wrong instruments to play, getting them to start on the wrong beat and occasionally getting them to sing the chorus backwards and such stuff  )

Never noticed If Fili was singing on the 'off beat' or the 'on beat' or with The Beat  (Am I making this up? ) I just heard 'a glorious noise' !

True it took me a wee while to 'get it', but that's only because I was 'used to' an embryonic version going on in my head.

An EXCELLENT wee song !!

Eve Hussettes!

See from The Hussy's site that we may have a 'work in progress' or a finished item for the album cover of 'Japanese Graffiti'.

Hope it's the former as I only know what it says because I know what it's meant to say.

Or maybe that's just moi ?

Good Afters A!

No but it takes a genius to fathom the way artistes think?

Hey R !!

Stop 'copping out' !!

You never named one album in the pix !!!!! ...

(And that hippy band 'Pink Floyd's ' album, whatever it's called ..'The Dark Side Of The Keith Moon?' was included as a joke  And think you've said that one line comment about every The Hussy's artwork released, so it's really not an opinion, so what do you really think about it ? )

If this is The Hussy's 'finished' artwork for 'Japanese Graffiti' and they're most happy with it, then that is the only opinion that REALLY matters, as after all, it is 'they're baby', but like usual I'll pass opinions wether wanted or not as a The Hussy's fan (and as a member of the record buying public i.e. the folx who are gonna walk in to record stores and decide wether to actually pick this album up and pay their hard earned sheckles for it, so that The Hussy's get an ill informed /non connected with 'their baby's 'opinion of how it looks from outside. )

1. Even though The Hussy's 'Myspace' site now looks 100% more excellent due to the 'Japanese Graffiti' style, that is because it's 'minimalimist', whereas (If that is the finished cover ?) that big mad writing is 'so in your face' and detracts from the image it doesn't actually "tell you anything" about the album or even mention The Hussy's ?

2. Maybe because of the name of the album, or just because it just looks like a soundtrack album, I'd actually walk into a record store (this is moi in a "member of the record buying public" mode  ) and think it was a soundtrack album for that Andy Garcia/Michael Douglas movie? 'Black Rain' or some cheap Hong Kong movie soundtrack.

The 'soundtrack' section of record stores is probably the most boring section of a record store for most folx who've probably never actually ever been there !!
(So I won't admit to frequenting them   )

3. As Al rightly or wrongly pointed out .."i don't think it takes a genius to work it out...? " most folx wandering around a record store wouldn't take the time to look at it (or take the time to "work it out",If they're as impatient or simple as moi? And they are just 'simple consumers'like moi  ) so the album cover would defeat the purpose.

The Hussy's (even though musically excellent!) are struggling to be 'recognised' so why release an new album that doesn't *advertise them* on the cover, with that masssive silly writting ??????

Beats me ??

Most folx call 'heads' (in life) because it's easier and is what's 'expected', but I just call 'tails' as I'd rather give an honest opinion, wether it's right or wrong ..

Keep Hussying !

8) Jack

P.S. You can all *shout * at me now as you look at the 'artwork' below.

Ok, I'll have a shot :)
Brotherhood by New Order
Bury the hatchet by The Cranberries
Power Corruption Lies .. New order
Unknown Pleasures (100% classic cover!) Joy Division
No idea - I like it though lol
Technique - The Spice Girls. Ok, New Order (sensing a theme here)
Closer by Joy Division
and the simply wonderful Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd

What's the one I missed? Did I get the others right?

I stick by my 'eye catching' appraisal. I like it, I was suprised when I first saw it, nice strong image, but I have to agree, it would make sense to have the band's name on there somewhere, maybe a wee line along the top in a nice bold colour?

it doesn't really mattter if their name is on the cover or not. i don't know anyone who buys records on the strength of the cover as a rule, and it's likely to be found in a record shop in The Hussy's section. What is important is that it's a good cover, which it is.

HJ:
give us some examples of record covers which tell you something about the record (excluding the obvious artist and/ or title)

I don't think you'll find any soundtrack album cover that doesn't mention the film/tv show/live production it comes from. I would agree it has a certain filmic quality, but then perhaps that's the idea?

I would wait until you've heard the contents before making any decision about it, it's those that really count.

People recognise the quality of the music first, then you sell them the product. Would you buy a record by a band you have never heard anything about based solely on the album cover? maybe you have, i'm sure some people must do. Hopefully those that do will get a pleasant surprise.

I would imagine that the brand awareness department was on holiday that week, and they designed a cover which they liked for it's artistic merit, rather than it's strength as a piece of advertising. That's the reason they are musicians and songwriters, and not marketing executives. Long may that continue.

Morn A!

Like you know I don't give opinions thinking I'm 100% correct, I just give them to hear other folx opinions to help me decide If I'm right or wrong.
(It's how I learn a lot of stuff  )

Totally agree that The Hussy's know how the music for the new album sounds and how the current artwork might reflect that music'
(Mabe it is cinematic?).

I just give my honest opinion with the limited knowledge that I have, so of course I may be wrong?

As you say ..

Totally agree !

As for buying music on the strength of the album cover, I probably think outside the box there.

Two albums which come to mind where I bought the album just for the cover without ever having heard the artiste, below?

8) Jack

Image
Not technically correct that I bought this as I was too young to buy it, I had to get my mates big brother to buy it for moi.
Probably just bought it for the sweary word?

Image

Without knowing the music bought this for the fact it had a cool 3-D cover and included a pair of 3-D glasses.
Yes !! I was even gullible back then and had the same crap taste

Good Afters R!!

Methinks you would've done what I would do and click on the 'properties' link whilst hovering over the image as the file name gives the album title.

If not, congrats then as you did excellent !!!

The one you didn't get?

I just realised it has a wee connection with my other post .

It's a solo album called Garcia by Jerry Garcia (The Grateful Dead)

Keep Hussying !

P.S. Am I the only person on the planet to have never heard 'Dark Side Of The Moon'?

As stated before, I like the new album art. It works for me.

Still a bit upset that my cover design was rejected once again...

Too obvious?

Eve Hussettes !!

Like always ...as yesterday's 'twitter' (or bulletin ?) concerns 'Japanese Graffiti' it shall be stuck here.

The excellent little video for another The Hussy's track from the new album 'Japanese Graffiti' !!

THE HUSSY'S - 'LIFE'S A COW' (Police On My Back Edit  )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNMgQlN0C_w

Even although the song sounds excellent, is it just moi or is it a little tad low?
(My PC has five speakers and a big base speaker and I really struggle to hear it properly)

Still an excellent wee song !!!

Heard murmurs that some The Hussy's fans might not like the new sound of 'Japanese Graffiti', but I just think it kinda sounds like a more grown up The Hussy's sound ?

What do others think ?

Strange how Grangemouth looks kinda cool at night as it normally looks like the ass end of the world during the day!

Close ups reminded moi of a similar massive petro chemical site I used to 'work in' over in Africa where somedays you'd walk in the front gate and 'clock in' and walk two mile to the back gate and sneak out and go home to bed, before sneaking back in at 'stopping time' to clock out'.

Other days you'd just spend half your day chasing the packs of small monkeys 30 or 40 strong which invaded the complex now and again and ran away with your lunch box or equipment?

All mad but true !

Jack, they are mp4s which are shit quality for the music on purpose and I turned it down a little as well. We dont want people downloading it at great quality before we put it out proper. Aftershave was a high quality upload and took 5 hours to upload wheras the rest took 4 minutes- theres a huge difference on the sound if compare them.

Eve JC !

I really thought it was my PC sound system or it was 'YouTube' (as they do that now and again with some videos.)

I was wondering ... why you folx were putting out so many of the songs from 'Japanese Graffiti' up on 'Youtube' when there are only nine trax on it.

Bet you sat and watched that little 'uploading box' whilst you uploaded 'Aftershave'!

Great song, as you say a more mature Hussy's offering and for every fan who doesn't like the new style as much I'm sure there will be two who like it more than the old Hussy's style.

But .. don't stop playing the old stuff. Two Hussy's for the price of one. Excellent!
