Hey Hussettes ! :)

The latest blogs ?

`Garys First Gig`

" We've been rehearsing the new stuff and recording recently and not working our live set. The gig was a bit of a muddle through job but it was great. There was a lot of space (not just literally) created by the lack of keyboards in the sound and I think it was definite step up for the band."

Feel sometimes The Hussy`s / JC don`t have enough *self belief*, when things shouldn`t be that way, as they are EXCELLENT !!
(Kinda why I hang around here , and moan the face off them/ bore everyone rigid/complain about everything :lol:/ talk so much inane rubbish  & generally enthuse soo much, because I have belief in The Hussy`s, as they are that excellent !)
Like G or J said in their `Cabaret Voltaire` post, about Glasvegas` family having so much belief` in *lean times*, same goes here !!
Don`t believe JCs comments about "a muddle through job", as I was in the crowd, and they were awesome !!!!!!!!
If this was The Hussy`s live *with neglect*, then be prepared to be blown away, when they "next do a gig in a town near you", once they`ve got *their act together*
You will be blown away !!!!!
A very "big step up` !!!!!!!!

`Central Sounds`

""Oh Xmas. It's a lot of rubbish isn't it?"

"This year I'm going to pretend I'm enjoying it and then laugh to myself in a big mirror on Jan 2"

Play along with track for 5 minutes.

"Nah. Too much like Starship by Jefferson Airplane"

"Do you think? I like it. Sounds like Honeybus"

"No .We're making a record. Needs more zing"

"What's all that about that canoe guy?........"

Love these little blogs where J says so much by saying nothing !!

Up the creek without a paddle.

Hey Hussettes ! :)
Folx here, don`t comment too much on stuff, whereas I comment on everything  , so I may as well end 2007 in the same vein .
Read the latest strange /funny /technological blogs of immortal guitars, Beach Boys & *made up instruments* and the masculine technicalities involved in playing a triangle ! , and felt the need to comment .........

`While My Guitar Gently Weeps`

"Amazingly it wasn't. It was snugly hiding inside a wardrobe and somehow it was still alive. We used it on a couple of songs on Sunday- it sounded fabulous in the hands of Gary and he played a snazzy solo on Poppy Day. I used it on the Radar and it just sang. The dust from the collapse was still on the case. "

A strange little blog, that instantly had me remembering the cover of a Glasgow `Daily Record`from years ago, which had a weird photo on the front. Some demolition company were pulling down an old tenement in Glasgow, which happened to include a pawn shop, and when they started on a chimney they found this burglar from the 60`s who`d got trapped there. Photo was this little mummified guy,*standing there* with his two arms up, as though he was trying to dig his way out .
Apparently he had five `Woodbine` in his pocket .
A very strange memory from days of yester .

That aside, as I`ve seen Garys guitar skills, these little blogs just wet ones appetite for the album that will be born in the new year of 2008 !

`Kill Surf City`

"We did a massive amount of work in the studio on Friday on Instantly Attracted, Catherine, 1980's and Poppy Day. Steph played synths, Gordy banged percussion, Kev banged some things, I sang loads of backing vocals and Gary did loads of guitars.

Another strange connection...
Have a vast music collection, and tend to *jump all over the place* and take notions for stuff.
Well hadn`t played The Beach Boys for yonks, as I only seem to play `em at parties, or when I`ve got my *excellent head* on. , so because the season of Satan Claws was upon us, I had `em playing in the audio system in readiness for all the frivolity that was approaching, when I read this blog .
( Play `Help Me Rhonda`without feeling the need to grab a hairbrush, and go all Kareoke*(can never spell that word !! ),and you must be dead !!  Strange how *guys* all think that they can do all the high notes and still look super sexy whilst doin` so ? :?  )
The `Surfing U.S.A.` Beach Boys ARE def better than the "mental, master tapes burning" Beach Boys !!!  as commented on in the blog !!!!
That aside again, is excellent to hear all the tit bits, and the enthusiasm enthused in the recording process of the new album !! :D

"The best bit of the day was when we needed a sound for the guitar solo on 1980's. I suggested the DOD Envelope Follower. I've never been able to get a sound out of this pedal. In fact I originally bought it and the guy in the shop said it was a Wah Wah and took my money off me. I got it home and it sounded utter sh*t. It's a nice colour though. Kev connected it up, Gary played the solo and- Shazam! It sounded amazing. After all those years of owning that pedal it finally paid me back. I looked at the back and it said "Made in Salt Lake City".

I knew it had to be my day….. "

The " DOD Envelope Follower" ?
Am sure J is just `making up instruments`, to see If we`re paying attention .
Like, who follows envelopes ??

`Bizzare Love Triangle`[/b]

"Gordy returned and we set the triangle up in the control room. It has a tiny beater the size of a spoon. We then took it in turns to see who could play it- kind of like Cinderella and the slipper- but more masculine and grubby. It was a tie between Gordy and Kev. I hit it once but knew I was beaten. Even then, Kev put it through the beat detective and used a sample for each chorus. Yes, we cheated folks."

Made me chuckle !
Never knew there was so much *musical prowess* involved in playing a triangle ?
The "beat detective" ???
That not an Elvis Costello song ??
Ain`t these blogs Ace ?
Right `Help Me Rhonda` is blasting from the audio system, so I feel the need to go look for a hairbrush and hit all the high notes  ,whilst being super sexy !!

A MOST EXCELLENT YEAR THAT WILL SOON BE 2008 TO ALL HUSSY`S AND HUSSETTES !!

8) Jack

P.S. ` Ba Ba Ba Ba Barb Barbara ..... Barbara Anne ` !![/b]

P.P.S.` Wouldn`t It Be Good ? `

Hey Hussettes! :)

A moogerfooger ?
A guyatone phaser ?
DOD Envelope Followers ?
Beat Detectives & Radars ?

Think The Hussy`s spend eighty percent of their time in the recording studio making music, and the other twenty percent making up names for non existent instruments, just to see If we`re paying attention ?
Love these little informative blogs of the recording process and all the nonsense that goes with it !!
Was a great little idea of The Hussy`s to post blogs about how the new albums coming together.

Talking about the new album, initial comments about laying down foundations, strong drums, Garys excellent guitar contributions etc etc, had me envisioning a powerful *Powerpop* album (ala Blondie / The Soup Dragons / The Primitives or The Ramones) being forthcoming, but all this latter day talk of green melodicas that match folx *tank tops* , triangles, glockenspiels, duffel coats, Suggs and "Sea Lion Man" has me worrying that a Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band type album is forthcoming ?

"Well I put on my duffel coat on and headed out into the rain."

I'm going to buy a Moogerfooger just so that I can drop it into casual conversation.

eg "Have you seen my mobile anywhere ?" "Yeah, I think it's beside the Moogerfooger"
"I remember the day I found out that I had won the ebay auction for my Moogerfooger"
"Hey, want to come home with me and see my Moogerfooger ?"

Hey R!
That`s an original *chat up line* If ever I heard one !
Would try it one eve whilst out on the town, but it`d probably result in personal injury !

"Hey Baby, wanna come home to my pad to see my Moogerfooger ?"

Hey Hussettes! :)

Thoughts on the latest blogs?

`Don`t Shoot Me I`m Only The Piano Player`

"At some point in December we thought it would be good to try another couple of things for the album. Someone suggested we do a song with just Fili singing and Steph playing the piano and another with just Fili and a couple of acoustic guitars and maybe another stringed instrument-
We were hoping to use the grand piano at the Byre but really it depends on how much time and money we have.
It will be good to hear Steph on a decent piano "

Different is good !
This was why I liked the little download of `The Thrill`The Hussy`s put up on their site a while back.
Even though I tend be be a wee noisey *rawk person*, my fave instrument is the piano, so would be excellent to hear the Hussy`s with some piano .

Fave pianist is Mike Garson as he is soooo awesome and talented.
For anyone interested (not that you would be) the piano part during the track Aladdin Sane is a first take, that`s how awesome he is .

Is nice to hear The Hussy`s finally? getting away from the keyboard dominated stuff and treading new water.
All these little blogs about the recording process for the new album just whet the appetite even more to finally be able to hear it!

"Kev played me The Thrill and Fili had done some amazing harmonies on the chorus. He also played me Instantly Attracted on which Fili had relaxed the lead vocal until it was horizontal. All good."

As above !!!

`Stop Making Sense`

"You'd ask him a question and then he'd answer with a different answer to a different question and you'd ask a separate question and forget the first answer. "

Kev sounds like he`d be at home on the forum.

P.S. Hey Hussy`s!
As this topic has the distinction of being the first one to be viewed over 1000 times, don`t I get a free lollipop or a signed `Tunnocks Caramel Log` or something ?

Hey Hussettes! :)

Faffing about as usual whilst you lot work, and being paid for it!:D
Been paid for going to HMV to buy Gary Numans `Replicas`, been paid to make a cheese sandwich, been paid to watch a Ziggy Stardust documentary, and just been paid to watch the fabulous Hussy`s on Rapal and am now bored.

So like I usually do when bored, I`ll pass inane opinions on stuff no one`s interested in!

10th February

Wild Is The Wind

"The main song we were working on was "This Must be Love" an old song of ours .It was written with "Wild is the Wind" from "Station to Station" in the back of my mind. Bowie's version of an old Nina Simone song is truly epic. After a few hours we had some great backing vocals from Fili but because the song modulates it was quite tricky trying things out.
The interesting thing about Bowie's version is that it sounds like listening to a song beside a window while a winter storm is blowing. Fili sings it quite low and because of the modulation I'd be surprised if we could play it live.
We finished off "Instantly Attracted" ....

Have heard a little demo of this song, and know of the song James speaks about by this Bowie bloke, which makes it all the more intriguing to hear how the finished version is going to sound.

17th February

Rock`N`Roll Animal

"Still chipping away on the record. We only did 4 hours this week but we managed to finish Rachel off and got a good guitar part for The Thrill. We're all working so by the time it hit 12pm everyone was falling asleep. Rock and roll."

Have seen The Hussy`s do `Rachel` live which was quite excellent, so will be interested to hear If they still use the same kinda arrangement on the album.
Also think the finished version of `The Thrill` may be a little revelation to folx like me who have only heard the little demo version (which was wonderful) up on their site a while back.

20th February

American Gigolo

"Why do songs always sound better when they're in a film, they make you feel a particular way, some of the tracks on the album are good and some are not so, I feel betrayed. They should put this as a warning on the front of the CD like cigarette boxes."

Nice to see that James gets enough time off from "stunt vocalist" duties  to indulge in some shopping.

Soundtracks?

Usually think most folx don`t like them and it`s only geeks like me who do?
Like all forms of music so "Soundtracks" are no different.

Am talking of a Soundtrack as in like pieces of music from the movie and songs from the movie, not like the Trainspotting or Saturday Night Fever movies where it`s all just a collection of *hit songs*.
(Which I also have, like???? Doesn`t everyone?  )

Some of my faves?

01.Pulp Fiction - Various
02.Cat People - Giorgio Moroder
(Most folx would go for American Gigolo or Midnight Express but I`m kinda biased on this, but have them anyways....)
03.From Dusk Till Dawn - Various
04.Natural Born Killers - Various
05.Twelve Monkeys - Various
06.Reservoir Dogs - Various

(Is it too late to add `The Rocky Horror Picture Show`,`The Life Of Brian` & `A Clockwork Orange`?? )

Image

Well that`s my "tuppence worth", so all you folx get back to work, and I`ll go and faff about some more !

Keep Hussying!

P.S. " Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life!"

P.P.S. Think `Drive In Saturday` From the `Control` soundtrack, might appeal to said blogger ?

Hey Hussettes! :)

This is probably my most favourite post on the forum, as it`s like my little psychiatrists couch where I just hang around and talk to all my alter egos and personalities.

The Vibroslap?
Def thought the peeps were taking it too far with these exotic sounding instruments, so checked and found out it really exists.

Thursday, February 28, 2008

The Vibroslap

Sunday was the last day of overdubbing. Actually we were "underdubbing"- mainly taking stuff off the 11 tracks and making sure what was there worked.

Always feel that less is more.
Pity I can`t practise that in my posts?

The vibroslap on Poppy Day had to go. Yes, we had to look that one up- when Steph or me had said "It's that instrument that sounds like a rattlesnake why don't we put that there". Thanks Wikipedia but no thanks as it sounded kack after Jimmy had done a good job of finding a sample. Maybe a real vibroslap would have worked but "an overdub too far".

Fili posed the question "what will we call the album?". At the moment it may be called "Super Pro" as a reference to our attempts to improve the sound quality of our work but a sly dig at the fact that we are far from being "pro". Dunno. Sounds like a golf ball or a pair of cycling shorts. Is that a bad thing? I would quite like "Fili and the Hussy's are okay" but maybe that's too negative and people would take it literally. It'll probably end up being called Hussy's 2 or something boring. To actually call it "The Japanese album" would be even funnier- creating demand for 2 records at once and confusing any new fans no end.

`Super Pro`?
You`ve got to be kidding?
And doesn`t that have a connection with some other band?

Suppose If you have a *gutter mind* like me, it could *read* `Super Prostitute` which I suppose has a Hussy connection.

Def think the album should have some positive optimistic title.

Reminds me of the Tony Defries ( a clever manipulative manager from the 70`s) method of promoting his clients.

"Act and behave like rock stars and the audience will believe you are!"

Well that`s my tuppence worth as I get off the couch and head off into the day of Saturday.. :)

Keep Hussying!

Hey Hussettes! :)

Usual opines on the latest `blogs` which no one is interested in.

March 28th 2008

Just Like Eddie

" Fili was talking about how she had an "Iron Maiden week" planned for the summer at the rehearsal the other afternoon. This included going to see the Maiden at Twickenham in July and a week of Maiden activities which may include going up the London eye with Eddie and Rachel.

It had that unpleasant effect of finding it’s way into my dreams that night.

Dreams eh?

Still the rehearsal went well.
We now have 27 songs to choose from and we were trying to work out a decent combination of old and new.

All good. "

Usually find that JCs blogs have me thinking that he`s more mental than me  , but Fili being an Iron Maiden fan ?

`Run For The Hills`

27 songs?
Has ones appetite whetted for future forthcoming Hussy`s Version 3.0 gigs!

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

"We were doing a mellow track called "Goodbye" on Wednesday night.

The song was written by Fili and me and is basically just a piano and a voice.

I then suggested to Steph that he play the piano like the Blur song from Trainspotting (cant remember what it’s called) but it sounded utterly depressing. .

We then layered on some mellotron. Fili and I took turns in adding vocal harmonies, which seemed to get better and better, like some kind of high jumping Olympic harmony sing off. By 11pm we were buzzing and the song was sounding great with Chris adding percussion and I wanted to just stay in all night and finish it but obviously we were all getting up in the morning for the daily grind.

Still, we’d only been there for 5 hours and we had something really special."

Is quite excellent that maybe we`ll finally get to hear a song that has Filis voice as the *main instrument* (rather than her shouting over all those Mooglefoogers, Envelope followers and Vibroslaps  )

Filis voice with just a piano accompaniment sounds most excellent !

(Think the nearest we`ve got to Filis voice being the *main instrument was `Friends Reunited` but as always I talk a lot of crap. )

And not that anyone`s interested, but the Blur song is called `Sing`

And amazingly in that way that all life is inter-connected, my sound system which has been on *random* playing six *Sooperspatulas* & Hussy`s Cds has now started playing `Friends Reunited`, so I`ll bugger off back to the `Twilight Zone`.

Keep Hussying!!

Hey Hussettes! :)

From reading yesterdays `Snobs` blog, seems like the day of the new Hussy`s album is creeping ever nearer.
A bit like a steam train slowly climbing up a mountain pass, and now it`s hurtling down the other side.

All talk of Fili wearing "Thriller" apparel for the cover, has one thinking "do they have *top shelves* in record stores? "

SNOBS Saturday April 4th

"Fili has finally got her "Thriller" trousers, which have been in the post, and the cover shots for the record can be done. I don’t know if she’s going to go the full length by getting a bright red jacket and some cut off cycling gloves .

The owners of the studio are currently trying to sell the place and it just so happened that one of the potential owners appeared. He said he knew my face from somewhere and I said "jail?". A guy with a clipboard followed him round and then left. I’m sure he’d just bought the clipboard in Staples round the corner. "

Hey Hussettes! :)

Back in my favourite little post with all my alter egos. :P

Nice to read from Wednesdays blog that all songs chosen for the album have finally been, well ..... chosen, and all The Hussy children are fighting amongst themselves about running order and such malarkey.
(Wonder If I`ll have the dreaded 'grammar police' after me, after that last sentence? )

Know I`ve spoke about the songs on the new album elsewhere, but just trying to keep it at the top of folx minds.

Right!
We`re off to play *five a sides* !
