Hey Hussettes !
Is everyone on holiday ?
It must be great to have a life ! Lol!!!
Excerpts from the past couple of days blogs...
' Both Ends Burning'
11th September
Radio play and Glasvegas album
"We got our first play on Radio 1 last night on Vic Galloway which was great- they played Atom City Girl. So far Dave Monks on BBC radio Merseyside made Super Pro album of the week and Bob Fischer of BBC Teesside has been playing Roller Disco a few times. Tom Morton and Janice Forsyth have been playing Roller and 1980s on Radio Scotland. We've also had a decent amount of support on XFM Scotland, and from Jason Shand in Inverness and maybe most quirkily BBC Radio Nan Gael have made Super Pro album of the week."
Excellent that The Hussy's have had airplay on Radio 1 and all those other stations.
But like ...How do they know what radio station has played what songs?
Picture JC up in his little attic room with his big old fashioned transistor radio, furiously twiddling the dial into the wee small hours, as the candle burns at both ends.
' The Laughing Gnome'
10th September
Snobs
"This is basically about an old guy who lives near me. He decorates his garden with gnomes. I walked past the other week pretending to mind my own business but my jaw was nearly hitting the pavement - he had about 200 of them, some actually on the roof of his little garage. I'd say about 40% of them were fishing even though there's no river in his garden. Every November he has the most amazing Xmas light show. All the little kids walking home from the primary school wave at him and he stands outside his front gate of his house and says hello to them. In this modern world of suspicion it just seemed right to write a song about him but not make it a Sun expose type song. The stuff about him having a dead child and the snobs were just added for effect, drama and mawkishness purposes. He's probably got kids of his own who are working in Merchant Banking in London simply to afford their Dad's electricity bills.
This was so easy to record. My acoustic guitar probably was one take if I remember right but that gives it a breezy feel that gets lost of you try and fanny around too much. Gary added the twangy electric guitar and it was one of two tracks that had us pissing ourselves in the studio about tv theme tunes finding their way into our music ("Bring me Sunshine" by Morecambe and Wise and on T Rex the theme from "One foot in the grave"). Jimmy produced it and did a great job. Most of my attention was focussed on the rats hiding in the sea of binbags outside the studio that I was pleasantly surprised when I eventually heard it on the finished album."
Excellent little song, and nice to hear the wee story behind JC's lyrics.
Everyone seems to have one of these eccentric characters living in their neighbourhood.
The one living in mine lives with about a hundred cats, and endlessly walks the street having full scale arguments with imaginary people 24/7.
' Jamming'
Atom City Girl
"I got the idea for this when we were in Borders last September playing a gig.
By the time we got to jamming the song out for the album at the last minute there was only me, Steph and Gordy and we had to use our imaginations for the arrangement but it seemed to work. If we make another record this winter we'd better get used to that way of working. I quite like it. It's like having a giant invisible rabbit in the room who plays all the instruments you cant hear but you know should be there. You can just wave your hand and say "Don't worry that's where the tuba comes in".
It's apparently Fili's favourite song on the album. She did a lot of the backing vocals in the studio and they are great. There was a funny time in the studio when someone insisted one of the guitars was out of tune and we wasted hours going round and round trying to check the tuning of things using equipment that wouldn't be out of place in a reprocessing plant in Atom City. I couldn't hear the bummer and I thought I was going mad but peer pressure made me hold my tongue. I eventually picked the bass as the culprit in a kind of random thought process where I felt I had to say something but didn't have a clue what everyone was talking about. After 3 hours we decided that it was in our imaginations and nothing was changed."
Wonder If we filmed one of these jam sessions, we'd catch 'Harvey' on camera ?
Can picture JC,Steph & Gordo jamming and the song turning into a reggae song.
Had a *daft thought* the other day whilst Mr Bob Marley was singing 'jamming' as I made a suspiciously long rolled cigarette

, and thought "we've heard The Hussy's doin' pop, power pop and doin' ska.
It'd be cool to hear them doin' reggae."
A reggae version of 'Rock Steady' as a 'B' side perhaps ?
Told you it was daft !!
Keep Hussying !
