I know it bombed in the UK and didn't do much better in the US, but I LOVE this movie.

The music alone is worth the price of admission. The scene with the Small Faces tune "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" propelled me back to when I was 16 listening to Ogdens Nut Gone Flake (I had the original round UK release) and trying to sing like Steve Marriott. Oddly enough this was one of the band's most successful singles (along with Itchycoo Park and Tin Soldier) and was actually released against their wishes by their evil record company. Marriott gave it his Eastenders best after an arguement with the Hollies that he sang without a noticable accent.

There is still no one who sings like Marriott. Rest in peace little man. Close my eyes and drift away...

Also, how can you not love a movie that uses "HiHo Silver Lining" by Jeff Beck as background music?
Where do you think HiHo came from? NOT the Seven Dwarfs!

And the original version of "Stay With Me Baby" by Lorraine Ellison.
And Dusty Springfield's "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me".
And the Easybeats "Friday On My Mind".

Best rock 'n roll movie since The Committments. Well, maybe not that good, but close.

I thought I was the only one who waited on tenderhooks for this movie to be released. OMG it is the best movie of the last decade. The soundtrack is first rate. It's my childhood! Long live rock and roll, passion for radio, rock and roll and wanton behavior!

Eve Folx !

Had never heard of this movie?

Will have to look it up on the net when I have the time, and then maybe wait on the Dvd coming out.

It was released in the UK as "The Boat That Rocked". The US version was slightly different I am told.

Don't buy the DVD, I have the British version. Just ask nicely.

Sometimes I think that Marylou is my female counterpart.

Wasn't Bill Nighy amazing? I wish I was that cool...

Hi K!!

Now that I know the UK title I remember seeing the trailer.

As you'll already know it was based on 'Radio Caroline' which transmitted from the North Seas in the late 60's.

Always fancied it but never got round to it.
(Love Rhys Ifans and Bill Nighy is as always excellent !! )

Will ask very very nicely only up to the point were sexual favours start to be asked for.

Sexual favours will not be necessary HJ. Expect a package in the mail in a week or two. Or three. With instructions...

"With instructions" K?

Now you got me worried this 'package' will come in a brown paper wrapper, and 'instructions' will be sexual favours demands ?

You know I joke K !

Loved The Boat That Rocked! Anything with Bill Nighy is good in my book :)
I'll track down Pirate Radio, sounds fantastic, got to watch it for that music alone :)

I'm still not a perv HJ.

"Instructions" means this DVD was created by a moron. It is split into two halves, and unless you begin with "Pirate Radio B" the disc will start with the second half and won't make a bit of sense.

I figured this out all by myself but a friend didn't. I swear he is thicker than Thick Kevin. That comment won't make sense until you have seen the film.

Jack, you aren't even close to being as thick as Thick Kevin. You are downright thin compared to him!
