Eve Hussettes !!

Know K and possibly R commented on the excellent little video The Hussy's posted on their site of them doing a kinda wee live promo of Fountains Of Wayne's 'Hackensack' on some other thread, but to save me looking for it, replying, then it getting lost again, thought I'd post it here to let it stick out like the proverbial sore thumb I am .

Thoughts ?

Had a wee tussle with it mentally at first ( performance Vs visuals ) as this is my most fave Fountains Of Wayne song.

Always loved the original because of the resigned vocals ( like we've all 'been there' waiting on someone, or is it just me that's a loser? .. now I just grab the first 'fast black' home ! )

But after a couple of plays, the F.O.W. melancholic 'male' version that has inhabited my head for so long was dispersed, and I *got* it !

The 'Crowded House' video technique ( in my mind? ) of slowly panning out and in was kinda cool, but as a fan of close ups and closely cropped close ups, wish there had been more, but now see the video for what it's meant to be ..The Hussy's live , spontaneous and unedited !!

So this eve's thoughts ...

EXCELLENT VIDEO AND RENDITION !!!
(And love the way Chris wiggles his foot ! )

Am sure I passed this video shoot on the way up to Loch Lomond as I drove the gf's car, as you can clearly hear a car passing by and If you listen intensely you can hear me crunching her gears and her scolding me once again.

P.S. So glad that Fili finally watched the Roger Whittaker 'The Art Of Whistling' Dvd that R sent her in days of the beginning.

Hackensack
fountains of wayne

I used to know you when we were young, you were in all my dreams
We sat together in period one, Fridays at 8:15
Now I see your face in the strangest places... movies and magazines
I saw you talking to Christopher Walken on my TV screen

And I will wait for you
As long as I need to
And if you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you

I used to work in a record store, now I work for my Dad
Scraping the paint off of hardwood floors, the hours are pretty bad
Sometimes I wonder where you are, probably in L.A.
That seems to be where everybody else ends up these days

And I will wait for you
As long as I need to
And if you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you

And I will wait for you
As long as I need to
And if you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you
If you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you ......

Utopia Parkway is one of my all-time favourite albums and Hackensack is one of the best FoW songs. I was well pleased when James wrote about FoW on a MySpace blog so to see The Hussy's actually cover a song is pretty cool, and they've made a good job of it. I'm sure I saw a lyrics sheet in Fili's hand too.

I was wondering where the tambourine sound was coming from at first and then all was revealed.

The video was shot near Dunoon, but don't ask me where exactly, as there was a bit of a transport issue, and i couldn't see where we were going from the total darkness of the back of the van.

The "Crowded House" video technique - whatever that is - was the bass player's concept.

I also "filmed" some other songs while the band were arranged casually on a fallen tree slightly further into the trees. But not far enough that they didn't get some funny looks from passing pedestrians. The band were no doubt engrossed in the art....

I hope they upload a clip of them playing Japanese Graffiti, as it features Steph playing a stylophone, although sadly not one of the seventies ones with Rolf Harris on the box, and Rachel trying to play the Melodion, which she managed beautifully, especially since she added a nice vibrato to the sound by virtue of the fact that she found it difficult to stop laughing...

They probably won't use it though, as James kept asking me to "move around with the camera", which i was reluctant to do, as it was quite noisy with the carpet of twigs and other forest detritus, and also because it quickly became apparent (to me) that i couldn't hold the camera steady. Bizarrely, Chris had a (very) small tripod in his bag or secreted somewhere about his person which he carries for emergencies, so I was able to perch the camera on a tree stump and just get bitten and marvel at the band trying to play a song while being attacked by insects.

It's definitely one of my more enduring images of The Hussy's.

The video currently has 89 views, I'm pretty sure 50 of those were me. It's just that good... :D

PS - Who filmed this, Alan or Steph?

Hey Al !

Thanx for the info for this excellent video about where and how it was videod.

Intriguing to hear more stuff was videod, and would be cool to see some more of this.
'Japanese Graffiti ' sounds fun and like it would provide laughs.

Glad fun was had on your little Hussys' day out.

94 views and 4 were I. :)

P.S. Maybe we should all chip in to by Al a camper light, for when The Hussy's lock him in the back of the Hussymobile folx ?

Steph filmed the FOW video in the back of the van, I filmed most of the other stuff you haven't seen yet....

I don't need a light in the back of the van, they just hang me upside down in the dark. That's how you recharge roadies.

Hey J !

I thought you were sitting down when last we met ?

8) Jack

SIT DOWN
james

I sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
Secrets I can’t keep
Inside of the day
Swing from high to deep
Extremes of sweet and sour
Hope that God exists
I hope I pray

Drawn by the undertow
My life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight
So let it flow

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Now I’m relieved to hear
That you’ve been to some far out places
It’s hard to carry on
When you feel all alone
Now I’ve swung back down again
It’s worse than it was before
If I hadn’t seen such riches
I could live with being poor

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they’re touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate

Down
Down

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Down

Yeah, she still hasn't sent me that one back! Thanks for reminding me. Glad she mastered some of the more advanced stuff from it though, used the ninja whistling techniques subtly but to great effect ;)

I did. And the band were complaining because I moved them around to get a better balance on the instruments. Hardly the most hi-tech bit of sound engineering I've ever done, but it didn't stop them taking the piss...

Hey A!

One acoustic guitar, one stylophone, one tambourine, one baby's rattle , one vocal, three thousand twigs, one passing car and two hundred midgies ?

As ever ...
the professional sound engineer Al !

8) Jack

A FOREST
the cure

Come closer and see
see into the trees
find the girl
while you can
Come closer and see
see into the dark
just follow your eyes
just follow your eyes

I hear her voice
calling my name
the sound is deep
in the dark
I hear her voice
and start to run
into the trees
into the trees

into the trees

Suddenly I stop
but i know it's too late
I'm lost in a forest
all alone
The girl was never there
it's always the same
I'm running towards nothing
again and again and again
