THE NEW HUSSY'S 2009 'JAPANESE GRAFFITI' ALBUM !!!!

Image

Hey Hussettes !!

As known round these parts, I'm kinda like a little cyber 'Hilda Ogden' (Like 97% of folx reading this around the world are thinking,"So it's a normal day like ?" :o ) who was well known back in the 60's / 70's / 80's ? here in the U.K. for being a gossip.

Well as probably known (from folx reading this forum) those Hussy folx are preparing to embark on the recording of their new album in January 2009 , once all their *New Year hangovers * have subsided  , so being a wee 'cyber Hilda Ogden', of course I can't wait to speculate about the new album until they sober up, so will start now .

From fleeting passing conversations in dark dingy bars, 'sped read' blogs & folx gossiping via emails (You know who you are ! ) have heard maybe we may hear included on The Hussy's new 2009 album , trax such as 'Shop Dummies','Baby It's You', Suzie Can't Fail','Hey! Hey! What You Wearing Tonite? (Y.L.L.S.), 'Beer Goggles' and The Hussy's covering Joe Dolcies 'Shut Up Your Face ' may be on the NEW imminent Hussy's alum, but these are probably just trax I imagined & 'dreamt', so If anyone hears any little rumours 'bout the NEW Hussy's 2009 album, then please correct me here !

As I always say Jack, why let the truth stand in the way of a good story? ;)

Maybe Fili will decide to perform the blues, spitting out, "Paying the Cost to be the Boss"!
Happy to be speculating over NEW songs from the Hussy's....

Eve Hussettes !

Was gonna post Sunday's blog in the blogs post, but it more deserves to be here as it is the first murmurs about plans for the NEW The Hussy's 2009 album !

All that concerns me, is which kinda numbut would actually utter such a statement ?

Some little 4' 2" guy with a 'Napoleon complex' who has a hyper inflated *job title* , like Borders / Starbucks / Currys / insert big chain name here  MANAGER , who gets bullied by his wife / girlfriend at home , so comes to work and tells 'his staff' (who all think he's an *ssh*le  ) "I'm A Big Deal Around Here" as though telling folx this actually makes it true ?

Meet this type regular but usually saying "Hey Jimmy you're only 4' 2" " usually shuts them up !

That's my wee rant  ....

Here's the blog !

I’m Kind Of A Big Deal Around Here

"We've got the studio booked to start our new album at the end of February so we need to get our skates on. Over the next few months we just need to work our way through the new songs to try and get that down to 8 or 9. The first song we've got lined up is called "I'm kind of a big deal around here".

Fili wrote the words and e mailed me them over to me during May this year. Weirdly the song is about a strange guy she met in Borders- he was flicking through the Japanese art books and he said "I'm kind of a big deal round here" to Fili. It's one of those lyrics which are a bit opaque and the song could have a few meanings which I love. This links in really well with Atom City- the lyrics for that came from a book I picked up in Borders. Maybe we should just go up to Borders on a Saturday and go through the books to try and get some lyrics.

Musically the song sounds a bit like "Jump" by Van Halen or "Dirty Mind " by Prince. This is our third record and the mantra seems to be "lets not repeat what we've already done" and we're off to great start with this song. If the album turns out rubbish or people who are into the band don't like it because it's a bit different then tough titties.

The other exciting thing is that we'll have two new musicians on this record. I've got a really good feeling about Chris in the studio and I think he'll do a great job. Rachel is using a Roland SH201 and we're going to try and use the synth sounds on that to influence the record rather than 2 stereo guitars.

All good "

NO BIG DEAL
...Love And Rockets

You set me up again
You make me lose my friends
I just don't know what I'm gonna do with you

Your feet are still on the ground
So you put me down
I just don't know what I'm gonna do with you

I don't feel...
You're no big deal
No big deal

I got into a fight
Got into it tonight
I just don't know what I'm gonna do with you

You talk much to loud
When you put me down
I just don't know what I'm gonna do with you

I don't feel...
You're no big deal

You know you broke my heart
And that was just the start
I just don't know what I'm gonna do with you

You know you broke my heart
And that was just the start
I know just what I should do for you

I tell you
I don't feel...
You're big deal
No big deal

Eve Hussettes !!

Whilst I 'detox' after all the recent xmas festivities  , thought I'd pass comments regarding the proposed new The Hussy's album.

Seen from hiho's little excellent 'Meet The Hussy's Part Two' video that those Hussy peeps are working with 50 demos in the making of the new album.

Like how prolific is that on a song writing scale ?????
(Just asked that , as I almost love the word 'prolific' as much as I do the word 'peripheral' LOL !!!)

And from the day of Tuesday's blog we're starting to learn some of the proposed songs to possibly be included on it ?

Aftershave

"We were rehearsing the other night. We were working Aftershave, Brian Ferry Look, Save Me and Is This What love feels like for the new album. Chris was on his Xmas night out and he was heading back after we finished at midnight. He said his boss had bought a pile of Domino pizzas almost the height of a human being. I was jealous.

It's not complicated. We put the demo on the i pod over the studio PA system and then we play along over and over again until everyone has the tempo and parts. Then the song gets pulled apart and we try and re arrange them with a pair of giant music scissors. Sometimes we just leave them- weirdly the songs that are written quickly are the ones that are best arranged. "

All Good !!

From today's blog...
Another wee teaser about another song which may be included on the new The Hussy's 2009 album.

Is nice to hear talk of some stuff not being "old school Hussy's" as new and different are more exciting !!!

I’m the greatest living actor

"This started out as a big drum loop back in April. I downloaded it from somewhere in the USA. It sounded like someone rehearsing drums in an enormous empty Amazon distribution centre during their lunch break with added echo and that signal sent out to the moon and back for extra delay. The song was easy to write and the demo uses quite 80's sounds like an M1 and bass guitar through a flange pedal and a kind of choir. When we're rehearsing it I keep trying to put reverb on Fili's vocals but the machine in the rehearsal room is difficult to programme. Fili should sound like she's on a cloud reciting Moby Dick page by page but instead she sounds like she's down a well asking if someone will pull her back up. When we get it recorded I'm sure we'll get the right delay sound. Jimmy has the demo and will know intuitively what we need.

It doesn't sound like old school Hussy's but that's the point. It's meant to sound big and empty like "Purple Rain". All Chris has to do is play the same loop over and over again but we may just take a long loop section of him when we record it.

The lyrics came from watching a documentary about the 50 greatest actors and each one of them was described as "the greatest living actor of all time" which is quite a burden to carry on your shoulders."

PS 'I'm the Greatest Living Actor' title starts a little song playing in my head...

Cracked Actor
bowie 73

I've come on a few years from my Hollywood Highs
The best of the last, the cleanest star they ever had
I'm stiff on my legend, the films that I made
Forget that I'm fifty cause you just got paid

Crack, baby, crack, show me you're real
Smack, baby, smack, is that all that you feel
Suck, baby, suck, give me your head
Before you start professing that you're knocking me dead
Oh stay
Please stay
Please stay

You caught yourself a trick down on Sunset and Vine
But since he pinned you baby you're a porcupine
You sold me illusions for a sack full of cheques
You've made a bad connection 'cause I just want your sex

Crack, baby, crack, show me you're real
Smack, baby, smack, is that all that you feel
Suck, baby, suck, give me your head
Before you start professing that you're knocking me dead
Oh yeah
Oooh stay
For a day
Oh yeah
Don't you dare
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
Hoo
Hoo
Yeah

PPS Also starts this little song playing in my head ..

Stacked Actors
foo fighters

Oh mirror mirror, you're coming in clear,
I'm finally somewhere in between.
I'm impressed, what a beautiful chest,
I never meant to make a big scene.
Will you resign to the latest design,
You look so messy when you dress up in dreams.
One more for hire, a wonderful liar,
I think it's time that I should come clean.

Stack dead actors, stacked to the rafters,
Line up the alan b'stard all I want is the truth.

Hey, hey now, can you fake it,
Can you make it look like we won.
Hey, hey now, can you take it,
And we cry when they all die blonde.

God bless, what a sensitive mess,
Yeah, but things aren't always what they seem.
Your teary eyes, your famous disguise,
Never knowing who to believe.
See through, yeah but what do you do,
When you're just another aging drag queen.

Stack dead actors, stacked to the rafters,
Line up the alan b'stard all I want is the truth.

Hey, hey now, can you fake it,
Can you make it look like we won.
Hey, hey now, can you take it,
And we cry when they all die blonde.

Stack dead actors, stacked to the rafters,
Line up all the alan b'stard all I want is the truth.

Stack dead actors, stacked to the rafters,
Line up all the alan b'stard and we cry when they all die blonde.

Hey, hey now, can you fake it,
Can you make it look like we won.
Hey, hey now, can you take it,
And we cry when they all die blonde.

Stack dead actors, stacked to the rafters,
Line up all the alan b'stard all I want is the truth.
Stack dead actors, stacked to the rafters,
Line up the alan b'stard.

Cry when they all die blonde.

Frankie Goes To Easterhouse

Eve Hussettes !

As yesterday's blog concerned the making of the new album, thought it best to stick it here.

Maybe it's just moi, but I love the little blogs, and moreso the ones with thoughts on the embryonic new The Hussy's 2009 album.

Have always championed 'Shop Dummies', but am now even more excited to hear the eventual proper *souped up* version plans for this song (VW with added spoilers/neon lights/ white walls and furry dice  ) which just teases by adding excellence to an already most excellent track !

Am glad those Hussy's dug around their *toybox*, and that enthusiasm is being felt for an old rejected *toy* ! :D

And 'Life's A Cow' with S's *taking the urine* 'Relax' bass and R's "total genius" synth harpshicord loop has one wanting to hit the *Send Money* link on Paypal already !

Enough of my inane slobberings ...

Here's the blog !

Shop Dummies and Europopsters

Shop Dummies and Europopsters

"Fili’s away on holiday so we’re an instrumental band at the moment. That sounds quite glamorous, like there’s a saxophone player, a trombone section and someone with turntables saying “I,2,3,4”. Mostly it’s just me with a microphone mumbling some made up words. The impending deadline for the new album is only 5 weeks away and out of the 27 songs on the demos we’ve only managed to get 8 songs together so we’re sweating a little. We’ve chucked a good few away, usually for quite illogical reasons- but what’s so logical about standing around trying to make air molecules move in such a way that they make a pleasing sound?

I’m glad that we took Shop Dummies out the toybox. Rachel added a good synth part and Chris has simplified the drums which were a sample of “For Your Love” by the Yardbirds. It’s come out the other other end like some VW Beetle project on Discovery Turbo, all shiny and exciting. We’ve also chanced across a song called “ Life’s a Cow” which has a Europop melody and lyrics about existential angst. The original demo used a drum sample from “Hercules and Love Affair”. I didn’t really like the demo because my guitar sounds like a snake charmer’s pipe and I keep expecting a cobra to come slithering out of the back of Steph’s Ampeg cabinet whenever I play it and I hate snakes. Rachel, precisely because she isn’t a trained musician or seems to bother much with conventions started playing the guitar loop on a synth harpshicord- all the way through the song, which was total genius, while we moved our way round the Europop chords and even better- Steph started playing his bass like “Relax” by Frankie , for a joke. The end result was way better than the demo and I cant wait to record it in all it’s Euro glory.

We’re struggling to get a song called “Is this what love feels like?”. The demo is really dark and uses the drum loop at the start of “Intruder” by Peter Gabriel but we just cant get inside the song enough to make it excite us. "

For someone who only wears black you are really into colours, eh Jack?

Follow this link...

http://www.crayola.co.uk/pages/core.php

Hard to choose between the crayons or colored pencils. Probably depends on your alcohol intake.

The crayons actually taste pretty good if you wash them down with a Guinness... :D

LOL !!!

You know me .. just a little cyber vandal who likes pushing buttons to see what they do, with the attention span of a five year old ?

Have always wondered why no one's thought to give crayons flavours, as tasting like candles makes them less fun.

You've just given me my first *daft thought *of the day.

Do people dream in colour ?

I dream in black and white.

'DANCE AWAY'

Hey Hussettes !

As per norm, as yesterday's blog was about the new album, thought it best to stick it here.

Blog as always, was informative, but being a non musical person, sometimes they read like 'how to be in a band and make your own album' manuals.
(Never knew there was so much involved? I just thought bands turned up drunk or stoned, made a noise, then went back to the pub? )
The little song references do help one 'get' exactly what JC is talking about though.

Chris' little *dense moment* made one chuckle.
(Pictured him walking into one of those childrens 'Early Learning Centre' toy shops, choosing a C and a G from a set of childrens 'building bricks', hitting them, then going up to the assistant to complain that they're not in the right key. )

Anyway enough dribble, here's the blog.

Gabba Gabba Hey !
8) Jack

P.S. With talk of Roxy Musics 'Dance Away' and The Ramones 'It's Alive' live album, lit a cigarette then heard ten trax from 'It's Alive' before I managed to finish my cigarette !

P.P.S. It's Bryan Ferry JC !
("Brian Ferry" is an effeminate bricklayer from Newcastle  )

Faster faster!!!!

"We’re trying to get tempos for the album at the moment. This involves sitting with a stopwatch, a tracksuit top and pretending you are the gym teacher while you count in blocks of 4 over 30 seconds. It sounds like you're praying to some weird number God if you’ve got headphones on and someone’s listening to you in another room.

One of the songs for the new album is called “The Brian Ferry Look” and to be brutally honest it’s got a sample from the start of a Roxy Music song where Brian Ferry lights a cigarette and then puffs it over a brilliantly laid back 70’s bontempi drum machine. This was just the starting block for the song but when I was trying to get the tempo it sounded like Brian Ferry had had some really bad news from Ascot , about a horse, and was lighting up a succession of 500 cigarettes, while he phoned Coutts and Co, his private bankers to discuss his losses- as the loop returned to the start over and over again and Brian lit up another fag and another and so on. Chris is talking about buying some woodblocks and making a loop like the vintage Roxy drum machine to play along with. He asked what kind of blocks and I bluffed “One in C and another in G as the songs in C” but when he came back to the rehearsal the next week and said they weren’t actually tuned, everyone smiled especially me. I was just winging it.

I sent the tempos over to Chris and he’s going to try and make rhythm tracks to play along with. If you listen to a drummer’s click track when they are recording it sounds like someone hammering an anvil through a set of headphones. It has to be that loud to be able to hear it over the drums.

It’s good idea to work out your tempos in advance. If you’re playing a lot of gigs then you just start speeding up to gig speed which can be anything between 5 and 20 bpm faster than you should record. It sounds good in a sweaty club but in the cold, unloving light of a recording studio it can sound like the music to a chase scene in a Tom and Jerry cartoon- only speeded up.

If you’ve ever listened to the Ramones live album from the late 70’s you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s mental but in an exciting way. The tracks on Rocket to Russia. sound like they’re recorded on mogadon when you listen to them back to back with the live album. "
